Attention All Funeral Establishments

If you are currently employing apprentice embalmers, this is a courtesy reminder that your approval to train apprentice embalmers expires on December 31, 2012. Due to budgetary constraints this reminder will no longer be mailed to each funeral establishment.

If your establishment intends to train apprentice embalmers for the year 2013, please complete an Application for Approval to Train Apprentice Embalmers and submit it with the $100 application fee. Section 7670(c) of the Business and Professions Code (BPC) requires that this application be filed no later than January 15th of each year. If you do not submit your application by January 15th and you continue to train apprentices, the apprentice may not be granted credit for the period in which the establishment was not approved. Upon approval, your application will be returned to you. Post the approved application in your establishment with the apprentice embalmer registration certificate(s).

BPC Section 7670(a)(2) requires that the applicant has and continues to have in full-time employment, for each two apprentices employed in the establishment, a California embalmer who has had not less than two years practical experience as a California licensed embalmer immediately preceding this application in order to be approved. PLEASE NOTE: If the managing funeral director listed on your application is not on record with the Bureau for this establishment, a Notification of Change form will be required prior to approval of this application.

BPC Section 7665(a)(1) requires that a report be filed for each apprentice embalmer on or before January 15th of each year covering the period of apprenticeship ending December 31st of the previous year. BPC Section 7665(b) states the report shall consist of a concise summary of the work done by the apprentice during the period covered.
